Person-Centred Therapy

I specialise in Person-Centred Therapy. Below is some information about this approach and how it might be helpful for you.

What is Person-Centred Therapy?

Person-Centred Therapy is a Humanistic approach.

It was developed by Carl Rogers a prominent psychologist, who believed that given the right environment, every person has an innate capacity for growth, healing of past wounds and self-understanding (Self Awareness), enabling them to reach their full potential.
This approach is grounded in the belief that meaningful change occurs when a person feels genuinely heard, accepted, and understood.

In Person-Centred Therapy, Self-Awareness is at the heart of personal growth and healing. When we begin to notice our feelings, patterns, and inner experiences more clearly, we start to understand ourselves on a deeper level.

Person-Centred therapy is built upon 3 core conditions:

1.Empathy
I aim to really understand how things feel from your perspective—walking in your shoes, without judgement. It’s about deeply hearing you, not just listening.

2.Unconditional Positive Regard

You are accepted exactly as you are. You don’t have to prove anything, impress anyone, or hide parts of yourself. This space is about genuine acceptance and respect.

3.Congruence

I bring my real self into the therapy room. I’m not behind a professional mask—I’m present, honest, and authentic with you. That openness helps build trust and safety.Together, these three conditions create a relationship where you can explore, heal, and grow at your own pace.

Will you give me solutions?

I will not hand out a checklist or tell you how to “fix” yourself.

Instead, I will help you reflect, unpack what’s going on and connect more deeply with your own thoughts and feelings.

As humans, our clarity and confidence grow naturally when we are given space to be fully heard and accepted.

However, we can explore solutions and choices to problems and dilemmas, if that’s what you would like to explore.

Why is increasing Self Awareness important?

Increasing self-awareness is important because it helps you understand your own thoughts, feelings and behaviours better. When you become more aware of what’s going on inside you, it’s easier to make choices that align to your values.

When you understand yourself better, you are more able to identify what you want to change.

This awareness creates a foundation for authentic personal growth, rather than change that’s forced or imposed from the outside (like from friends, family and social norms).

When you become more aware of what’s happening inside you, you can identify patterns or beliefs that might be holding you back.

Self awareness creates the space to choose new ways of thinking or behaving that feel more true to who you are.

What makes ‘Person Centred Therapy’ different from other therapies?

Everyone is an individual and sees life through their own unique lenses. Even siblings who experience exactly the same events can be affected in very different ways.

Because of this, a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work well in therapy.

Person-Centred Therapy recognises and respects this, focusing on YOU, as a unique person with your own experiences, feelings, and needs.
